5. EMPLOYMENT RECORD:

* From 1.04.2004 to present: (FAO retiree)
( i ) Published two books on World rice production, the scholar Petrus Truong Vinh Ky (19th century), and several agricultural articles for magazines in FAO, Viet Nam and the USA.
( ii ) Resumed FAO/USAID contracts on a few papers & missions on rice research and development.

* From 1.10.1993 to 31-3-2004: Senior Rice Agronomist, Executive Secretary of the International Rice Commission (IRC), and Secretary of the IYR Organizing Committee, FAO, Rome, Italy.
( i ) Executive Secretary of the International Rice Commission (IRC): Convened the Session of the IRC, meeting of the IRC Steering Committee, publish IRC Newsletter, and assisted the member countries in reviewing and orienting their national rice research and development programmes, and implementing the Commission Session's recommendations.
( ii ) Implemented the FAO's Regular Programme and Special Programme for Food Security and coordinate the four existing regional Networks on rice and rice-based farming systems, namely The International Task Force on Hybrid Rice (INTAFOHR), Inter-Regional Cooperative Research Network on Rice in the Mediterranean areas (Japonica rice- MED-RICE), Wetland Development and Management Network/ Inland Valley Swamps (WEDEM/ivs), and the Advanced Rice Breeding in Latin America (GRUMEGA).
(iii) Developed and disseminate information on rice, rice production factors and constraints at the country level, through publications of technical documents, FAO Rice Infromation and the IRC website.
(iv) Head of the Field Food Crop, Crop and Grassland Service, AGP.
(v) Implemented the UN Resolution on the International Year of Rice – 2004, which was approved on 16 December 2002, in the capacity of the Secretary of the FAO Organizing Committee.

* From 1.4.1984 to 30.9.1993: Rice Agronomist, FAO, Rome, Italy:
( i ) Assisted the FAO member governments in the development, formulation and implementation of rice research and production projects/programmes.
( ii ) Organized meetings, workshops and training courses on rice and rice-based farming systems and "Thriving with Rice" Concepts in Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Senegal, Thailand, Laos, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Guyana, Suriname, etc.;
( iii ) Participated in FAO/UNDP/WFP missions to many countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to monitor and appraise rice and rice- related projects and programmes;
( v ) Developed/disseminated rice database information system and technical documents on rice at the Crops and Grasslands Service (AGPC).

* From 1981 to 1984: Rice Agronomist in USAID Project "Riz-Sorgho", Gao, Mali and Project FAO/UNDP/UPV/81/001- "Centre d'experimentation du riz irrigué et des cultures irriguées" in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso:
( i ) Planned and implemented the national rice research and production programme and training of national staff, extension workers and farmers on rice production and rice-based farming systems in Burkina Faso;
( i i i ) Developed and demonstrated adapted rice-based cropping systems at the Vallộe du Kou and Kafiguella;
( i v ) Assisted in planning and producing rice foundation seeds at the requests of the National Seed Service and other rice development projects/programmes.

* From 9-1974 to 12-1980: Rice Research Assistant / Associate and Post-graduate Agronomist at the Department of Agronomy and Range Science, University of California, Davis, U.S.A.
( i ) Planned, carried out and prepared reports for research work on rice agronomy and plant physiology in the Rice Group at the Department of Agronomy and Range Science.                        (ii) USAID Consultation on the installation of Seed Lab in Ouagadougou, Haute Volta, 7-8, 1977.

* From 7-1967 to 8-1974: Rice Specialist and Service Chief, Rice Service, Ministry of Agriculture in South Vietnam:
( i ) Planned and implemented rice research work on agronomy, varietal improvement and rice-based cropping systems at the Central Rice Experimental Station in Long Dinh, My Tho, Vietnam;
( i i i ) Was in charge of the national rice seed multiplication programme and seed activities at the National Seed Laboratory;
( i v ) Planned, implemented and monitored the national rice production programme, specially developed, managed, on a day-to-day basis, the "Accelerated High Yielding Rice Production Programme".
